Project: Fife ABS
Description: A sophisticated housing broker portal, which streamlines the process of Fife Council delivering, supported accommodation within the Fife area. The ABS system allows registered users to gain immediate access to all available supported accommodation for their clients, advertise vacancies and coordinate transfers with other partner agencies across the entire Fife region.
The Client
Fife Council is the third largest authority in Scotland, with a budget of over £580 million each year; it is responsible for delivering all local government services in the kingdom. With a team of over 22,000 people it delivers more than 900 individual services to the people of Fife each year.
The Challenge
Fife Council wanted to improve the process of allocating supported accommodation in the Fife area through the innovative use of technology. A commitment to increasing efficiency and best use of resources underpinned the project’s aim.
The Solution
The Fife ABS Housing system was developed in partnership with Fife Council and Fife Rights Forum aiming to bring together under one single process the allocation of supported accommodation which was being delivered a large number of independent organisations in partnership with Fife Council Housing Services.
- Publish & View Available Accommodation
- Transfer Accommodation
- Central Management
- Reporting
The Results
Fife ABS launched in June 2008 and detailed analysis of its impact is not scheduled for a number of months. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the provision of supported accommodation has improved significantly, with suggestions that the process of allocating available supported accommodation has reduced measurably. The system in general has been very well received by its user community which has grown to in excess of 100 regular users.
